Kilen – The Spring Specialists
Kilen produce an extensive range of springs for the European Car and Light Commercial Vehicle market,
offering high-quality products, professional service and excellent availability.
Kilen have spent over 160 years manufacturing springs, and today produce the world’s largest range of coil
springs for the automotive aftermarket. We are proud of our position as European market leader in the suspension
coil spring free aftermarket.
Kilen’s philosophy is to produce a complete range of springs, stocked for worldwide distribution.
All slow moving items are produced once a year for stock.
100% Quality Control
Production and development of Kilen springs takes place in modern, state-of-the-art factories in Sweden.
Kilen coil springs are manufactured from high-quality spring steel and are cold-coiled in computerised
automatic (CNC) machines. This ensures consistent high-quality across the entire range.
All springs are quality-assured prior to delivery. In order to guarantee customers the best service and
quality, Kilen are certified to ISO TS 16949, ISO9001 and ISO14001 for both quality and environment.
In addition, Kilen have the EAC certificate of conformity as required for the Russian market.
Matching Quality
Kilen’s products hold the same quality of those of vehicle manufacturers, and can therefore be used by
authorised repair workshops without warranty restrictions.
To support the confidence Kilen have in their product quality, all parallel wire coil springs are supplied
with a three year warranty. Tapered wire coil springs are supplied with two years warranty.
Automotive Coil Springs
Kilen produce the world’s largest range of standard and heavy-duty OE replacement coil springs.
Kilen coil springs are produced using superior grade spring steel at Kilen factories, where the state of
the art computer controlled machines ensure the highest quality standards.
Kilen use an advanced zinc phosphate and epoxy powder paint surface treatment, providing longer life to
the spring by minimising corrosion.
Kilen offer parallel wire springs (constant thickness) and both parallel and tapered wire options where
the original spring is tapered, giving customers and installers more choice.
Kilen produce matching quality parts according to BER 330 and 461, all springs can be fitted without
warranty restrictions.
Kilen vs ‘budget’ brands
Labour costs associated with a coil spring replacement are often more than the cost of the spring itself, making it
economical to choose quality over price.
Coil springs are constantly exposed to the elements and subjected to high amounts of stress as they support the
weight of the vehicle, isolating it from the road.
Steel quality is of utmost importance and Kilen source only the highest-grade specialist spring steel, which undergoes
a multi-stage heat treatment process. Some ‘budget’ springs on the market use lower quality steel and with these,
surface and inner defects are common. These defects reduce the spring fatigue strength, increasing the risk of early
breakage and premature sag.
Kilen provide a layer of zinc phosphate corrosion protection and budget springs typically lack this extra protection
and can begin to rust immediately, leading to the rapid spread of creep corrosion under the paint.
Heavy-Duty Springs
Sometimes a standard OE replacement is just not enough!
Vehicles fitted with tow bars for example will put extra stress on the rear springs when pulling a load.
As a result, vehicle handling may be compromised due to the vehicle ‘sitting down’ at the rear.
To compensate for the additional load, and reduce the ‘sitting down’ effect, Kilen supply a comprehensive range
of heavy-duty springs.
Heavy-duty springs fit in exactly the same way as standard springs but are up to 30% stiffer as required.
Replace in Pairs
After millions of cycles, even the best-made springs become ‘tired’ and will shorten (sag) causing the vehicle ride height to drop.
When replacing coil springs it is advisable, for safety and comfort, to always replace in axle pairs and failure to do so can
result in:
- Uneven ride height
- Increased tyre wear
- Less responsive steering
- Less secure road holding
- Increased braking distance
- Increased fuel consumption
When only one coil is replaced across an axle, the life expectancy of the other springs will decrease.
